The Village, Loxton

07 03 Council chambers Loxton 003.jpg

Step back in time to an era before TV, air conditioners and computers, when bread was baked at home in a wood-fuelled oven, milk came directly from cows to the table and when horses pulled ploughs to cultivate the land.

The Village, Loxton tells the stories of the region's early settlers and their families, displayed in over 45 recreated buildings and exhibits on the banks of the Murray River.

The Village Education program provides students with the opportunity to discover what life was like in our region between the 1890's and 1950's.

The Riverland has a network of National Parks which include long stretches of river, wetlands and large areas of Mallee. This environment is home to an abundance of birdlife and native animals and mammals, many which are endangered.

It is common to see kangaroos and emus drinking on the banks of the river and its creeks, dwarfed by majestic reg dums with hollows containing bats and parrots and hungry river goannas.
